      Abstracts No. 9156, IHCB (2009). TLC of Hoodia gordonii on silica gel with ethyl acetate - methanol - water 36:7:5. Photodocumentation and estimation was carried out by the DISTA method. The authentication of hang-off capsules, which contained several plant ingredients used to prevent hang-over, was performed by TLC on silica gel with toluene - ethyl acetate 9:1. Detection by spraying with vanillin-sulfuric acid reagent.

      Estimation of boswellic acids from market formulations of Boswellia serrata extract and 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid in human plasma by high-performance thin-layer chromatography

HPTLC of boswellic acids in Boswellia serrata extract and 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid in human plasma on silica gel with hexane - chloroform - methanol 10:10:1. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 260 nm. The linearity range for 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid spiked in 1 mL of plasma was 29 - 146 ng/spot, with a recovery of 91.7 %. The limit of detection and quantification for 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid in human plasma was 9 and 29 ng/mL, respectively. The method was applied for the determination of 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid plasma levels in a clinical pilot study.

      Quantitative estimation of withaferin a in the tablets of Ashwagandha by HPTLC

      60th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress PG-262 (2008). HPTLC of withaferin A in Ashwagandha on silica gel aluminum layer with toluene - ethyl acetate - formic acid 5:5:1. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 214 nm. The chromatograms of the tablet formulation showed a zone corresponding to standard withaferin A (hRf value 37) indicating the presence of the same in the herbal formulation. Linearity was in the range of 50-500 ng/spot. The concentration of withaferin A was 8.07 µg/tablet and 0.00134 % w/w in the tablet formulation.

      J. AOAC Int. 93, 1617-1621 (2010). HPTLC of aconitine on silica gel with ethyl acetate - ethanol 3:1 at 22 °C in a saturated twin-trough chamber. The hRf value of aconitine was 33. Quantitative determination by absorption measurement at 238 nm. LOD and LOQ was 20 and 70 ng/band, respectively. The linearity with respect to peak area was in the range of 300 to 1800 ng/band with an r of 0.9991. The repeatability (RSD) was 0.85 %; and the inter-day and intra-day precision (RSD) was 1.01-1.38 and 1.04-1.34 %, respectively.
