      New visualizing reagents for selected phenolic drugs investigated by thin layer chromatography

TLC of phenolic drugs (methyldopa, norepinephrine, terbutaline, bamethane, ethamivan, phloroglucinol, pentazocine, hexachlorophene, pyrocatechine, niclosamide, salicylanilide, thymol, eugenol) on silica gel with acetic acid - n-butanol - water 1:4:1, chloroform - methanol 9:1 and with benzene. 13 detection agents (e.g. alkaline blue, aniline blue, bromophenol blue, bromothymol blue, alkaline solution of brilliant cresyl blue, bromocresol green, helasol green, aqueous solution of brilliant cresyl blue, neutral red, phenol red) were tested; aniline blue and brilliant green were the best and most universal visualizing reagents for the phenolic drugs investigated.

      A HPTLC determination and fingerprinting of bacoside A in Bacopa monnieri and its formulation

      Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences 66 (1), 132-135, 2004. HPTLC of bacoside A in Bacopa monnieri and in its commercial monoherbal capsule formulation on silica gel 60 F254 aluminium sheet, 20 x 10 cm, with chloroform - methanol - water 30:15:1. Quantification by densitometry at 540 nm via linear regression in the range of 30 -180 µg/mL. Rf of Bacoside A was found to be 0.51. Validation regarding to accuracy, precision, specificity and recovery (97.4 – 100.1%). The proposed simple and sensitive method provides faster and cost effective qualitative control for routine analysis of bacoside A in formulations containing Bacopa monnieri saponins.
