Selective and sensitive detection by spraying with 2% sodium hydroxide solution followed by 0.5% orcinol solution. Heating at 100°C for 10 min. Detection limit under UV 365 nm of 1 µg and 15 µg per spot for dichlorvos and dimethoate, respectively.

Detection limits 30 and 60 ng/L for atrazine and simazine, respectively, at the 80 - 400 ng/L fortification level in the surface water. R.S.D. < 12%. Overall recoveries, 58-93%. The method is sufficiently selective and sensitive in screening of the compounds below the maximum residue limits of the European Community.
