      Quantitation of antibiotics by densitometry on a hydrocarbon-impregnated silica gel HPTLC plate

TLC of ampicillin, piperacillin, penicillin, mezlocillin, ticarcillin and oxacillin (direct sample determination) on RP hydrocarbon-impregnated HPTLC plates without solvent elution. The samples remained as a single spot centered about the point of application thereby facilitating direct quantitation by densitometry at different wavelengths. Detection limit 0.1 ng. Quantitation by densitometry in the range of 200 to 300 nm. This technique, direct sample determination (DSD), results in a higher sample throughput in reduced time with all samples being determined under the same conditions as the standards, without sample elution.
