      A novel thin-layer chromatographic system

TLC of cephalosporins (ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, cefadroxil, cefalexin) on an LDH anion exchanger mixed with silica gel as sorbent and 18 different mobile phases. Semiquantitative determination after elution with spectrophotometry. Conclusion: TLC on an mixture of layered double hydroxide and silica enables a better identification of all the cephalosporins presented in the paper. The method is easy to perform and can be applied in the pharmacy.

Study of the chromatographic behavior of 4 mixed tric(b-diketonato)-Co complexes, 3(b-ketoiminato)-Cu(II) complexes, 2 tris(alkylxanthato)-Co(III) complexes and 5 bis(alkylxanthato)-Ni(II) complexes on CN-plates with 15 mobile phases. The spots of individual complexes were visible owing to their natural colors.

The flowing-eluent-wall (FEW) procedure is suitable for single and multi-channel OPLC separation by operational segmentation of a non-segmented absorbent bed. OPLC of PTH-amino acids with chloroform - ethyl acetate 9:1 and of glycerol, diethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-butanediol, 2,3-butanediol, and 1,6-hexanediol on silica gel with dichloromethane - n-dibutyl ether - acetone - acetic acid - water 50:15:20:13:3. Detection by derivatization with chromium(VI) oxide reagent, followed by heating at 120 °C for 5 min. Densitometry at 540 nm.

      Quasi-continuous videodensitometric recording of chromatograms in circular TLC

      J. Planar Chromatogr. 24, 188-195 (2011). A new method of quasi-continuous videodensitometric recording of circular TLC is proposed. It is based on separation by planar chromatography and simultaneous videodensitometric recording of the chromatograms on the plate as the chromatograms are developing in real time. This new approach enables to expand and to simplify the practical application of separation data of target samples during the entire chromatographic process. The chromatograms are recorded on a plate wetted with the liquid phase in the separation process. Use of this new version of TLC enables considerable reduction of the duration of analysis. Not only the traditional circular TLC is considered, but new methods of circular TLC - corner and lateral circular TLC. Quasi-continuous recording of the separation results can also be used for the detection of compounds in UV light. As example the CAMAG test dye mixture III was separated on silica gel with toluene.

HPTLC of salicylic acid and their derivatives (acetylsalicylic acid, salicylanilide, salicylaldehyde, salicylamide, methyl salicylate, phenyl salicylate, 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, salicylhydroxamic acid, 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid, 3-aminosalicylic acid, 4-aminosalicylic acid, and 5-aminosalicylic acid) on silica gel with n-hexane – diethyl ether – 80 % acetic acid in various volume compositions (80:20:3, 60:20:3, 70:20:3, 80:10:3, 70:10:3, 60:10:3, 8:2:1, 7:2:1, 6:2:1, 8:2:2, and 8:2:3) and on RP-18, RP-8, and CN phase with methanol – water in various volume compositions (10:0, 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6, 3:7, 2:8). The best separation was obtained on RP-18W. Evaluation by cluster analysis (single linkage method, Euclidean distance).
