Discussion of the elution order with varying solvent systems and comparison of the results with those obtained by PC. Consideration of the possible mechanism for the separation of the isomers.

J. Liq. Chrom. & Rel. Technol. 22, 1805-1811 (1999). TLC of hydrochloric acid and perchloric acid on microcrystalline cellulose and silica gel with developers water, acetone, ethanol and n-butanol. Monitored was also the behavior of HCl as a component of the developers water - HCl and n-butanol - HCl. - Eluents with a low content of a strong acid formed on the chromatogram 2 or 3 fronts, and 2 or 3 areas of different composition of an eluent. Weak acids were bound to the layer as molecules and could produce a second front only.

Separation Science and Technology 44, 1007-1021 (2009). A TLC method for mutual separation of three longchain aliphatic quaternary ammonium halides (cationic surfactants) is reported. TLC of dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB), tetradecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (TTAB) and hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (HTAC) on laboratory made TLC plates coated with Kieselguhr (0.25 mm), with methanol - 10 % sodium formate 3:7 as mobile phase. Detection with modified Dragendorff reagent comprised of solution A (containing bismuth subnitrate and KD) and solution B (containing barium chloride). Solutions A and B were mixed 2:1. The compounds appeared as orange-coloured spots. The effects of alcohols (ethanol, n-propanol), substitution of the formate ion by benzoate and acetate ion, different adsorbents (silica gel, aluminum), and the interference of metal ions ( Cu2+, Zn2+, Hg2+, Co2+, Pb2+) on the resolution of the three surfactants was studied. The limits of detection of DTAB, TTAB, and HTAC estimated were 3.3, 3.1, and 2.8 µg/zone respectively. The method was applied for separation of these compounds in water samples.

J. Chromatogr. 351, 489-494 (1986). Investigation of TLC behaviour of rare earths on silica, developed with aqueous ammonium nitrate of various concentrations. Detection by spraying with 0.01 % aqueous arsenazo III, followed by gentle heating. Proposal of a cation-exchange mechanism as the factor controlling the adsorbability of the metal in the system. The Rf values of the lanthanides decrease with the increase in their atomic number. Qualitative identification

Chromatographia 23, 653-656 (1987). TLC on silica with mixed organic solvents containing s-butyl amine. Examination of the separation of Zn(II) from Cd(II) in the presence of certain anions and at various pH values of the sample solution. S-butyl amine - acetone - formic acid 2:6:2 was found the best solvent system.

IV. Thin-layer chromatographic separation of noble metals on stannic selenopyrophosphate.) (Chinese. Chem. J. Chinese Univ. (Gaodeng Xuexiao Huaxue Xuebao) 8, 688-692 (1987). TLC of noble metals on inorganic ion exchanger stannic selenopyrophosphate with acidic solution, ammonia/ammonium chloride, trimethylamine and trimethylamine/alkohol. Some binary and ternary mixtures of the noble metals were separated succesfully using the procedure.
