Detection by spraying with ninhydrin followed by heating at 120°C for 5 min. Quantification by densitometry at 510 nm.

      Optimization of the TLC separation of seven amino acids

TLC of seven amino acids (alanine, asparagine, cysteine, leucine, phenylalanine, serine, threonine) on microcrystalline cellulose with butanol - glacial acetic acid - water 60:19:21. Detection by spraying with 3 % ethanolic ninhydrin solution and heating. The performance of this mobile phase was confirmed experimentally. Optimization by use of the experimental design software packages Design-Expert 6 and Statistica.

      TLC separation of amino acids with a green mobile phase

TLC of 15 amino acids on silica gel and alumina (with or without impregnation) with micellar solutions of cetrimide and cetylpyridiniun chloride and aqueous solutions of dextrose with chamber saturation for 10 min. A TLC system comprising of silica gel impregnated with micellar solution of cetrimide (5.0 mM) as stationary phase and 40 % aqueous solution of dextrose as mobile phase was best suitable for the separation of amino acids. Detection by spraying with 0.3 % ninhydrin solution in acetone and heating for 15-20 min at 60 °C.

      Identification and quantification of amino acids from medicinally important plants by using high-performance thin-layer chromatography

HPTLC of L-lysine (1), L-threonine (2), L-valine (3), L-isoleucine (4), and L-tryptophan (5) on silica gel with 1-butanol - glacial acetic acid - water 2:1:1. Detection by spraying with ninhydrin reagent, followed by heating at 85 °C for 5 min. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 254 nm. The hRF values for (1) to (5) were 21, 45, 57, 64 and 70, respectively. The LOD and LOQ were 20 and 36 ng/zone for (1), 40 and 51 ng/zone for (2), 37 and 40 ng/zone for (3), 10 and 12 ng/zone for (4) and 28 and 30 ng/zone for (5), respectively.
