Detection of paraffin oil in milk using the HPTLC PRO System

Ensuring food safety is of utmost importance, especially when considering the potential risk of mineral oil contamination in our food supply. Whether introduced intentionally or inadvertently, mineral oils can pose a significant threat. In the dairy sector, maintaining a vigilant approach is crucial for pinpointing any milk batches that may have come into contact with mineral oils, specifically paraffin oil. This transparent, scentless, and colorless oil composed of saturated hydrocarbons raises red flags.

The goal of this application note is to highlight a rapid and effective method for promptly detecting any paraffin oil contamination in milk. Leveraging HPTLC, a technique capable of processing multiple samples concurrently, emerges as a viable solution.
