HPTLC of (1) alpha-amyrin, (2) lupeol, and (3) beta-sitosterol in the leaves of Kalanchoe pinnata, Bombax ceiba, and Morus alba on silica gel with toluene – ethyl acetate 19:1. Detection by dipping into anisaldehyde–sulphuric acid reagent for 1 min, followed by heating at 100 °C for 5 min. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 525 nm. The hRF values of (1) to (3) were 71, 28 and 16 respectively. Linearities were in the range of 160-560 ng/zone for (1), 150-900 ng/zone for (2) and 80-480 ng/zone for (3). The intermediate precision was below 2 % (n=3) for (1) to (3). The LOD and LOQ were 60 and 160 ng/zone for (1), 50 and 150 ng/zone for (2) and 20 and 48 ng/zone for (3), respectively. Average recoveries for (1) to (3) were 100.7, 99.8 and 100.1 %, respectively.

Miq., Morus alba L. and Cynanchum glaucescens (Decne.) Hand.-Mazz on polyamide thin-films with (SDS - n-butanol – n-heptane 2.7:6.3:1.0) – formic acid 9:1, detection at UV 366 nm. Demonstration by applying to real life samples indicated that the procedure was suited for quality control.

Selection of appropriate viscosity of the mobile phase may be important in obtaining optimal chromatographic separation.

LOD and LOQ were 60 and 180 ng/zone, respectively. The intermediate precision was below 1 % (n=3). Recovery ranged between 97 and 100 %.

LOD and LOQ were 10 and 50 ng/zone for (1), 20 and 40 ng/zone for (2) and 10 and 50 ng/zone for (3). The intermediate precision was below 1.2 % (n=6). Average recovery for (1) to (3) was 99, 100 and 100 %, respectively.

Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 254 nm. The hRF values for (1) to (4) were 19, 83, 43 and 53, respectively. Linearity was in the range of 500-4000 ng/zone for all four drugs. LOD and LOQ were 77 and 234 ng/zone for (1), 38 and 116 ng/zone for (2), 108 and 327 ng/zone for (3) and 144 and 438 ng/zone for (4), respectively. The intermediate precision was below 1 % (n=3). Average recovery ranged between 98.9 and 99.4 % for (1) to (4).
