The Cumulative CAMAG Bibliography Service CCBS contains all abstracts of CBS issues beginning with CBS 51. The database is updated after the publication of every other CBS edition. Currently the Cumulative CAMAG Bibliography Service includes more than 11'000 abstracts of publications between 1983 and today. With the online version you can perform your own detailed TLC/HPTLC literature search:

TLC of a saponin mixture on silica with ethyl acetate - methanol - water 5:4:1; on RP-18 with acetonitrile - water 1:1 and on cellulose with butanol - acetic acid - water 4:1:5. Detection with 1% ceric sulfate in 1 M sulfuric acid. Cellulose TLC chromatograms were sprayed with aniline phthalate reagent. Excellent separation conditions for saponins and related terpenoid glycosides.

Advantages over GC/MS: less interference by large concentrations of other drugs; low time requirement.

An initial isocratic step with toluene separates sebum lipids. This is followed by a 25-step development using a gradient with a polarity range of methanol - water to hexane. Post-chromatographic derivatization by spraying with 10% cupric sulfate pentahydrate in 8% o-phosphoric acid solution and heating for 10 min at 110 °C. Densitometric scanning by absorbance at 450 nm.
