      A validated quantification of methadone in liquids using thin-layer chromatography and a flatbed scanner

      J. Planar Chromatogr. 29, 59-65 (2016). HPTLC of methadone in syrup on silica gel (1) or RP-18 (2) with methanol – 25 % ammonia 10:1. Detection by spraying with 1 mL of Dragendorff reagent. Quantitative determination using a flatbed scanner with a resolution of 16 bits. The hRF of methadone was 44 on (1) and 23 on (2). Linearity was in the range from 60 to 1260 ng/zone. The LOD and LOQ were 100 and 200 ng/zone, respectively. A total relative uncertainty of 6.5 % was achieved.

For quality control, TLC on silica gel (1) for Boswellia carterii Birdw./Boswellia bhaurdajiana Birdw. Resin, with petroleum ether (60-90 °C) – ethyl acetate 5:1, detection by spraying with 5 % vanillin in sulfuric acid – ethanol 1:4 and heating at 100 °C until the zones are visible in daylight; (2) for Commiphora myrrha Engl./Commiphora molmol Engl. resin, with chloroform – ethyl acetate 80:1, detection as before; (3) for Daemonorops draco Bl., with chloroform – methanol 19:1, detection in daylight. Quantification of dracorhodin by HPLC.

Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 380 nm. The hRF values for (1) and (2) were 22 and 83, respectively. Linearity ranged between 100-1500 ng/zone for (1) and 100-2000 ng/zone for (2). The intermediate precisions were below 0.3 % (n=3). The LODs and LOQs were 33 and 99 ng/zone for (1) and 32 and 96 ng/zone for (2), respectively. Average recoveries were 99.5 % for (1) and 100.2 % for (2).

Development of a rapid and cost-effective method for determining brominated flame retardants (BFR) such as tetrabromobisphenol A/S (TBBPA/S) and their derivatives in soils, including TBBPA, TBBPA bis(allyl ether) (TBBPA-BAE), TBBPA bis(2,3-dibromopropyl ether) (TBBPA-BDBPE), TBBPS bis(allyl ether) (TBBPS-BAE) and TBBPS bis(2,3-dibromopropyl ether) (TBBPS-BDBPE), based on TLC sample pre-treatment coupled with HPLC-DAD at UV 214 nm. The LODs and LOQs were between 0.023-0.087 μg/g dw and 0.076-0.29 μg/g dw, respectively. The recoveries were between 41-108 % and both % RSD of repeatability and intermediate precision were < 11 %. The method showed a good performance for analyzing natural soil samples collected from BFRs industrial park, suggesting its great application potential for monitoring environmental TBBPA/S and their derivatives.
