Detection with 0.1% dithizone in carbon tetrachloride (Zn, Cd, Pb), with 1% dimethylglyoxime in ethanol (Ni, Co), with 1% aqueous solution of potassium ferrocyanide (Cu). Titration resp. AAS determination after elution. The titrimetric determination is considered as useful for the quantification of Cu in the concentration range 100-500 µg/µl whereas AAS was useful for determination of Cu at concentrations in the range 2-8 µg/mL.

The model is represented by an equation in which the retention factor of a metal ion, the concentration of competing ion, and the constants a and b are of importance. TLC of 33 metal ions on silica gel with mixtures of methyl isobutyl ketone and formic acid. Experimental and theoretical results were in good agreement for most of the metal ions.

TLC of some inorganic pollutants on silica gel impregnated with potassium thiocyanate (0.01 -2.0 M) 1:1 mixtures of sodium chloride (0.01 - 1.0 M) and formic acid (0.01 - 1.0 M) as mobile phases. Detection with 5 % potassium ferrocyanide in water (for Fe3+, Cu2+, UO22+, VO2+, and Tl+), 0.05 % dithizone in carbon tetrachloride (for Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Bi3+, Hg2+, Ag+, and Tl+), 1 % dimethylglyoxime in ethanol (for Ni2+ and Co2+), 0.1 % aluminum (for Al3+) and 0.01 % thorine (for Th4+ and Zr4+). The effect of surfactants, halides and oxyanions on the separation of Hg2+ from UO22+ and Fe3+ was examined. The method was used to identify Hg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ in synthetic heavy metal sludge samples.

      Use of different salt solutions in salting-out TLC of Co(III) complexes on silica gel

Investigation of saturated aqueous solutions of 28 different salts used as potential mobile phases for salting-out TLC, on silica gel, of a series of four mixed bis-aminocarboxylato cobalt(III) complexes. Confirmation of three alkali metal chlorides, and four alkaline earth metal chlorides, for linear dependences previously established on different adsorbents with (NH4)2SO4 solutions by linear regression analysis of chromatographic data obtained for fifteen mixed aminocarboxylato Co(III) complexes (four series) with solutions of ammonium chloride. Comparison of separation achieved with different salts. Li+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ chlorides are most suitable.
