      Fluorescence reaction of inorganic cations heated on a porous glass sheet for thin-layer chromatography

      A new visualization reagent for cation separation by TLC

Detection after drying by spraying with a new visualization reagent, a 0.01% solution of 9-formylacridine in dichloromethane. The plates were then heated at 120°C for 10 min and examined under UV 366 nm.

      Reagents for the detection of carboxylate anion ligands after chromatographic separation of zinc carboxylato complexes

TLC of zinc(II) butyrate, zinc(II) isobutyrate, and zinc acetate on silica gel, prewashed with water û methanol, with 2-propanol - water 2:3 and pure redistilled water and on anion exchange layers with dioxane - water 3:2. Detection by derivatization with bromophenol blue, bromocresol green, and thymol blue indicator solutions, directly on the wet layer. Bromocresol green (0.5% solution + 5 mL 0.1 M NaOH) resulted in most sensitive detection of the carboxylates tested. The detection limit for this reagent and butyrate anion was established as 0.03 mg/L. New detection procedure.

TLC of 26 inorganic cations and 17 anions on layers prepared from layered double hydroxides (LDH; prepared from magnesium and aluminium nitrate) and silica gel with different mobile phases and a wide variety of detection reagents. - A new parameter SRF has been introduced to quantify the separating power of the sorbent.

      Prediction of Ksp from Rf values

      J. Liquid Chromatogr. 6, 1253-1264 (1983). Study of absorption behaviour of 47 metal ions in aq. HCl systems using stannic arsenate layers. The effect of solvent pH on Rf along with the complexation effect of HCl has been investigated. On the basis of Rf values the Ksp of some metal arsenates have been predicted. HCl has been utilized to resolve some binary and ternary mixtures.
