The hRf value for myotonin was 19. The intermediate/interday/intra-day precisions were below 3.4 % (n=5).

For quality control, TLC on silica gel 1) for Folium Sennae, with chloroform – methanol – ammonia 190:8:1, detection by exposure to ammonia vapors under UV 366 nm; 2) for Pharbitis nil (Linn.) Choisy, with toluene – glacial acetic acid 100:1, detection by spraying with 5 % vanillin in sulfuric acid – ethyl acetate 22:1 and heating mildly until the zones are visible in daylight; 3) for Amomum microcarpum C. F. Liang et D. Fang and Amomum kravanh, with cyclohexane – glacial acetic acid 100:1, detection by spraying with 5 % vanillin in sulfuric acid – ethanol 1:4 and heating mildly until the zones are visible in daylight. Quantification of aloe emodin by HPLC.

Phytochemistry 106, 94-103 (2014). HPTLC of corosolic acid in Lagerstroemia speciosa on silica gel with ethyl acetate - methanol 49:1. Detection by spraying with anisaldehyde reagent. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 580 nm. The hRF value of corosolic acid was 47. Linearity was between 20 and 100 ng/zone. The intermediate precisions were below 2 % (n=3).

Chinese J. Inform. Trad. Chinese Med. 20 (5), 67-69 (2013). Yinao Huoxue Keli granule is a TCM compound for the treatment of hemiplegia, numbness of limbs, deviation of mouth and tongue. For quality control, HPTLC on silica gel (1) for Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge with chloroform – acetone – formic acid 8:1:1, detection by spraying with 3 % ferric chloride in 2 N hydrochloric acid – water 1:100 and heating at 105 °C until the spots were visible, identification by fingerprint comparison with the standard protocatechuic aldehyde and the standard ingredient drug; (2) for Panax quinquefolius L., ginsenoside Re, Rb1 and pseudoginsenoside F11 with the lower phase of chloroform – ethyl acetate – methanol – water 15:40:22:10 placed at 5-10 °C for 12 h, detection by spraying with 10 % sulfuric acid in ethanol and heating at 105 °C until the spots were visible.

J. Liq. Chromatogr. Relat. Technol. 38, 1767-1782 (2015). HPTLC of thiocolchicoside on silica gel with toluene - acetone - water 3:15:2. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 277 nm. The hRf value of thiocolchicoside was 53. Linearity was in the range of 100-500 ng/zone. LOD and LOQ were 3 and 11 ng/zone, respectively. The intermediate/inter-day/intra-day precision (n=7) was below 1 %. Recovery (by standard addition) was in the range of 100-101 %.

J. Planar Chromatogr. 29, 310-317 (2016). HPTLC fingerprinting of two types of German propolis on silica gel with n-hexane – ethyl acetate – glacial acetic acid 5:3:1 under acidic preconditioning. Detection and documentation under UV 366 nm. Image analysis by converting chromatogram images to numerical data sets to form a data matrix. The best preprocessing was obtained by a combination of the median filter, correlation optimized warping, standard normal variate, and mean centering/autoscaling procedure.

For quality control, TLC (1) for Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. and the standard tanshinone IIA, on silica gel with toluene – ethyl acetate 19:1, detection in daylight; (2) for Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill., on silica gel with petroleum ether (30-60 °C) – ethyl formate – formic acid 15:5:1, detection under UV 254 nm.

Lianqiao Baidu Wan pill is a standard herbal TCM issued by the Ministry of Health, for treating swelling and pain, rheumatism, itching, constipation etc. For quality control, TLC on silica gel (1) for Ephedra sinica, with dichloromethane – methanol – ammonium hydroxide 20:7:1, detection by spraying with 0.1 % ninhydrin in acetone and heating at 105 ºC until the zones are clearly visualized, evaluation under white light; (2) for Radix sophorae flavescentis, with toluene – acetone – ethyl acetate – ammonium hydroxide 10:15:20:1, detection by spraying with 5 % potassium bismuthate solution and viewing under white light; (3) for Radix paeoniae rubra, with chloroform – ethyl acetate – methanol – formic acid 125:25:50:1, detection by spraying with 5 % vanillin in sulfuric acid – ethanol 1:4 and heating mildly until the zones are clearly visualized, viewing under white light.
