      Determination of cinnamyl aldehyde in Chongcao Yangshen capsules by thin-layer chromatography (Chinese)

Quantification by densitometry at 514 nm. Validation of the method by investigation of its linearity range (0.0.3 µg - 2.5 µg, r = 0.99); precision (RSD = 1.1 %, n = 5); its reproducibility of five time assay towards the same sample (RSD = 1.2 %); standard addition recovery (99.9 %, RSD = 1.3 %, n = 5). The results for three batches of real life samples are given. Discussion of the application of the procedures for the quality control of the medicine.

The simplex method has been employed to find the optimum composition of the eluent chloroform - dioxane - methanol - ammonia - acetonitrile 7:30:4:3:30. Detection under UV light at 254 nm.

      HPTLC Fingerprinting of Z-Guggulsterone in some marketed Ayurvedic formulations

HPTLC of Z-guggulsterone (a steroidal ketone present in oily resin of Commiphora mukul) and five marketed ayurvedic tablet formulations containing guggul, on silica gel with toluene - propane-1-ol - glacial acetic acid 8:1:1. Densitometry at 254 nm. The hRf of E-guggulsterone was 55. Several marketed formulations were evaluated for Z-guggulsterone, the UV spectra of the standard and that of the formulations were comparable in respect of Z-guggulsterone.The method was found suitable for evaluation of Z-guggulsterone in presence of other phytochemicals present in formulations.

      Simultaneous determination of 3-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid and 6-gingerol by HPTLC

HPTLC of 6-gingerol and 3-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid on silica gel with n-hexane - ethyl actate 7:3 in a chamber saturated at ambient temperature. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 254 nm. The hRf values were 48 and 58 for 3-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid and 6-gingerol respectively. The recovery was 98.7-100.8 % for both compounds. The chromatographic conditions were suitable for routine analysis.

      A validated HPTLC method for simultaneous determination of losartan and perindopril in tablet

The hRf value was 27 for perindopril and 55 for losartan. Densitometric evaluation at 212 nm. The method was linear in the range of 5-30 µg/band and 1-10 µg/band for losartan and perindopril respectively. The average recovery was 98.2-99.9 %.

Detection by spraying with bismuth potassium iodide – 1 % FeCl3 in ethanol 5:1 and heating at 100 ºC. Quantitative determination of stachydrine by absorbance measurement at 510 nm. The precision was 3.7 %RSD within plate (n=8), and the stability of the measurement within 120 minutes was 4.5 %RSD (n=5). The linearity range was 3.2-38.3 µg/zone (r=0.997, n=6) and standard addition recovery was 96.6 % (RSD=2.0 %, n=6).
