Indian Drugs 34 (6) 339-345 (1997). HPTLC on silica gel with toluene - acetone - isopropanol - NH3 60:30:20:3. Diloxanide furoate was used as internal standard. Visualization by spraying with 0.01% ninhydrin. Quantitation by densitometry at 520 nm.

Description of a method for off-line coupling of TLC and electron-impact ionization mass spectrometry (EIMS) which is well suited for routine forensic and toxicological investigations of a large number of samples incl. discussion of advantages and drawbacks of this approach. Several TLC systems for 493 compounds of forensic and toxicological interest are described and eight-peak mass spectra from full EI mass spectra are listed. TLC on silica gel with 1) methanol - 25% NH3 200:3, 2) cyclohexane - toluene - diethylamine 15:3:2, 3) chloroform - methanol 9:1, 4) chloroform - acetone 8:2, 5) ethyl acetate - methanol - 25% NH3 17:2:1, and 6) ethyl acetate. Reagents used for color reactions were: Marquis, modified Dragendorff, Ludy Tenger, potassium iodoplatinate, palladium chloride, ferric chloride-sulfuric acid, mercury nitrate-mercury sulfate, diphenylcarbazone, fast blue B, Bratton-Marshall (Clarke's Isolation and Identification of Drugs, 2nd edn, The Pharmaceutical Press, London, UK, 1986). TLC plates for biological samples were pretreated with a solution of methanol and 1.5 aqueous ammonia and reactivated for 2 h at 150°C in a clean oven and subsequently cooled in a clean closed system.

TLC of 6 quinolones (ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, difloxacin, sarafloxacin, norfloxacin, flumequine) on diol-silica gel with solutions of HDEHP (1%, 2.5%, 5%) in acetone, with solutions of HDEHP (5%, 10%, 15%) in ethyl acetate, and with ethyl acetate - HDEHP - methanol 36:4:5; development in horizontal chambers. Detection under UV 254 nm; quantitation by densitometry.

J. Liqu. Chromatogr. 25, 1401-1408 (2002). HPTLC of nadolol (5-[3-[(1,1-dimethylethyl)amino]-2-hydroxypropoxy]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,3-naphthalenediol) and pindolol (1-(1H-indol-4-yloxy)-3-[(1-methylethyl)amino]-2-propanol) on silica gel with ethyl acetate - methanol - acetic acid 49:49:2. Detection and quantitation by densitometry at 270 nm and by video densitometry at 254 nm. In a densitometric procedure the linearity range was 0.2-1.2 µg/10 µL; in a videodensitometric assay the linearity ranges were 2.0-12.0 and 0.2-1.2 µg/10 µl for N and P, respectively. Simple, precise, and rapid procedure.

J. Planar Chromatogr. 15, 76-78 (2002). HPTLC of paracetamol (N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide), chlorzoxazone (5-chloro-2(3H)-benzoxazole), and nimesulide (N-(4-nitro-2-phenoxyphenyl) methane sulfonamide) on silica gel - after prewashing with 10% triethylamine in methanol with chloroform - methanol - toluene 12:2:3. Densitometry at 270 nm. The proposed method is highly accurate, selective, and precise and can therefore be used for a routine quality-control analysis.
