RM values of some basic drugs (used mainly against Parkinson’s disease) and related compounds have been measured by RPTLC with a variety of ion pair reagents in the mobile phase or stationary phases. Retention and separation selectivity were readily controlled by changes in the eluent pH, methanol (modifier) content, or type and concentration of the ion pair reagent. - The strongest effect on the retention of the compounds was obtained when ion pair reagent was incorporated into the stationary phase.

TLC of a series of other drugs from the Essential Drug List were reported, which allow a fast and relatively sure basic quality control in finished products.

The relative standard deviation values for the main components and related impurities were between 2.2 and 3.4%.

Visualization under UV 254 nm, by spraying with 2% ethanolic dinitrobenzene solution and after drying with 10% ethanolic sodium hydroxide solution, by exposure to HCl vapor, by placing the plate into a cooled TLC chamber with nitrous gases, or by spraying with Dragendorff's reagent. Quantification by densitometry. Best separation on RP-18 with methanol - pH 3.0 acetate buffer 3:1, detection under UV 254 nm. Detection limits for diazepam and nitrazepam 0.005 mg/mL.

      Planar chromatography of (-)-deprenyl and some structurally related compounds

      J. Planar Chromatogr. 11, 247-253 (1998). Investigation of the TLC behavior of deprenyl and some structural analogs. Depending on the pH of the aqueous butanol mobile phase, which can be regulated by changing the ratio of ammonia to acetic acid, use of elution-type separation enables adequate differentiation of a variety of compounds structurally related to deprenyl. TLC of deprenyl and 33 other phenylalkylamines on RP-18 and silica gel impregnated with a solution of paraffin in hexane (10%). Displacement TLC on RP-18 was achieved by forced-flow TLC using a home-made equipment. Spots and displaced bands were observed visually under UV and also monitored by densitometry. 12 different mobile phases were used.
