      Densitometric and videodensitometric determination of nadolol and pindolol in tablets by quantitative HPTLC

HPTLC of nadolol (5-[3-[(1,1-dimethylethyl)amino]-2-hydroxypropoxy]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,3-naphthalenediol) and pindolol (1-(1H-indol-4-yloxy)-3-[(1-methylethyl)amino]-2-propanol) on silica gel with ethyl acetate - methanol - acetic acid 49:49:2. Detection and quantitation by densitometry at 270 nm and by video densitometry at 254 nm. In a densitometric procedure the linearity range was 0.2-1.2 µg/10 µL; in a videodensitometric assay the linearity ranges were 2.0-12.0 and 0.2-1.2 µg/10 µl for N and P, respectively. Simple, precise, and rapid procedure.

      Simultaneous determination of paracetamol, chlorzoxazone, and nimesulide by HPTLC

HPTLC of paracetamol (N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide), chlorzoxazone (5-chloro-2(3H)-benzoxazole), and nimesulide (N-(4-nitro-2-phenoxyphenyl) methane sulfonamide) on silica gel - after prewashing with 10% triethylamine in methanol with chloroform - methanol - toluene 12:2:3. Densitometry at 270 nm. The proposed method is highly accurate, selective, and precise and can therefore be used for a routine quality-control analysis.

      TLC determination of mometasone furoate in topical preparations

Quantitation by densitometry at 260 nm. RSD values of the repeatability and intermediate precision evaluations were less than 2%. The experiences of the authors also showed that the TLC method is relatively cheaper, simpler, and faster, compared to HPLC methods.

TLC of timolol (S-1[(1,1-dimethyl)amino]-3-[[4-(4-morpholinyl)-1,2,5-thiadiazol-3-yl]oxy]-2-propanol) and betaxolol (1-[4[2(cyclopropylmethoxy)ethyl]phenoxy-3-[(1-methylethyl)amino]-2-propanol) on silica gel with acetone - methanol 1:1, dichloromethane - methanol 1:1, dichloromethane - methanol - NH3 (25%) 20:79:1, ethyl acetate - methanol - NH3 (25%) 20:79:1 and 40:9:1 and on aluminium oxide with chloroform - 0.1 mol/l picric acid 97:3 or ethyl acetate - methanol - acetic acid 75:23:2. Also RP-TLC on RP-8 with tetrahydrofuran - 0.15 mol/l phosphate buffer pH 2.4 3:7. Detection after drying under UV 254 nm or after spraying with a 15% solution of iron(III)chloride in 5% HCl and then with 15% KI solution. Quantitation by densitometry of timolol at 300 nm and of betaxolol at 218 nm. Detection limits obtained for betaxolol and timolol were 0.025 and 0.05 mg, respectively; for UV irradiation at 254 nm were 2 and 0.5 mg for betaxolol and timolol, respectively.

      Estimation of berberine in herbal extract and poly herbal formulations by HPTLC

      Indian Drugs 41 (1), 46-47, 2004. HPTLC on silica gel plates with n-propanol - formic acid - water 90:1:9. Rf of berberine was 0.39. Quantification by densitometry at 348 nm via linear regression in the range of 40-220 ng. Limit of quantification and limit of detection were found to be 30 ng and 10 ng, respectively. The herbal extract was found to contain 0.402 % w/w of berberine. The percentage of berberine in formulations I, II, III and IV were 0.0886 %, 0.0123 %, 0.0283 % and 0.0091 % w/w, respectively. The standardized method was found to be reproducible, accurate, precise and selective.
