      J. Planar Chromatogr. 27, 5-10 (2014). _x000D_HPTLC of magnolol (1) and konokiol (2) in the cortex of Magnoliae officinalis on silica gel with toluene - methanol 10:1. Detection by dipping into 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical reagent (DPPH) in ethanol (1 g/L) for 40 min. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 550 nm. Linearity was in the range of 160-960 ng/zone for (1) and 162-977 ng/zone for (2). The intermediate/interday/intra-day precisions were below 2 % (n=6). The LOD and LOQ were 40 and 149 ng for (1) and 32 and 85 ng for (2), respectively. Recovery was in the range of 94.5-105.9 % for (1) and 86.6-103.4 % for (2). The HPTLC-DPPH method showed comparable results to an HPLC method._x000D_

      Method development and validation of LC and
      densitometric-TLC for simultaneous determination of pitavastatin calcium and ezetimibe in a binary mixture

      J. AOAC Int. 97, 99-104 (2014). HPTLC of pitavastatin calcium (1) and ezetimibe (2) on silica gel with toluene - ethyl acetate - glacial acetic acid 299:200:1. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 235 nm. The hRf values for (1) and (2) were 38 and 58. Linearity was in the range of 50-600 ng/zone for (1) and (2). The intermediate/interday/intra-day precisions were below 2 % (n=3). The LOD and LOQ were 4 and 12 ng/zone for (1) and 4 and 11 ng/zone for (2), respectively. Recoveries were in the range of 98.7-100.1 % for (1) and 99.2-100.0 % for (2).

Nuangong Qiwei Wan granule is a herbal TCM prescribed clinically for the treatment of irregular lumbago and alvine pain, irregular menstruation, neurasthenia, mental abnormalities, tinnitus, coma, convulsions, paralysis, etc. For the quality control, TLC on silica gel 1) for Polygonatum sibiricum, with chloroform – methanol – glacial acetic acid 5:4:1 with chamber saturation for 20 min, detection by spraying with 5 % phosphomolybdic acid in ethanol and heating at 105 °C until the zones are visible in daylight; 2) for Syringa Linn, with petroleum ether (60-90 °C) – ethyl acetate 9:1 with chamber saturation for 20 min, detection by spraying with 5 % vanillin in sulfuric acid – ethanol 1:4 and heating at 105 °C until the zones are visible in daylight.

Weikeshu Pian tablet is a TCM compound for the treatment of chronic gastritis, hyperacidity, stomach and duodenum ulcer, etc. For quality control, HPTLC (1) for Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae and hesperidin on silica gel with ethyl acetate – methanol – water 100:17:10, detection by spraying with 5 % aluminum chloride in ethanol and heating at 105 °C for 5 min, evaluation at UV 366 nm; (2) for Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch on silica gel containing 1 % NaOH with chloroform – methanol – water 40:10:1 at around 5 °C, detection by spraying with 10 % sulfuric acid in ethanol and heating at 105 °C until the spots were visible; (3) for Radix Aucklandiae, costunolide, dehydrocostus lactone and hesperidin on silica gel with cyclohexane – acetone 10:3, detection by spraying with 5 % vanillin in sulfuric acid – ethanol 1:4 followed by heating until the spots were visible.

Yinhuang Qingre Jiaonang capsule is a TCM compound used for the treatment of respiratory tract infection, acute and chronic tonsillitis, sore throat, pneumonia, periodontitis, conjunctivitis, influenza virus infection, etc. For the quality control, HPTLC of the drug and berberine hydrochloride on silica gel (1) for Cortex Phellodendri Chinensis and Coptis chinensis Franch. with benzene – ethyl acetate – isopropanol – methanol – concentrated ammonia 12:6:3:3:1, detection by exposure to ammonia vapor; (2) for Flos Lonicerae Confusae with butyl acetate – formic acid – water 14:5:5; (3) for Fructus Aurantii (A) with ethyl acetate – formic acid – water 100:17:13 up to 3 cm, and then, (B) with toluene - ethyl acetate – formic acid – water 20:10:1:1 up to 8 cm; for all (1-3), detection at UV 366 nm. The method had been applied routinely and proved to be suited for the quality control of the medicine.

      HPTLC method for simultaneous estimation of aliskiren, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide in synthetic mixture using quality by design approach

      J. Liq. Chromatogr. Relat. Technol. 38, 1546-1554 (2015). HPTLC of aliskiren (1), amlodipine (2), and hydrochlorothiazide (3) on silica gel with ethyl acetate - methanol - ammonia 375:140:11. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 229 nm. The hRF values for (1) to (3) were 43, 29 and 65, respectively. Linearity was in the range of 1500-5250 ng/zone for (1), 50-175 ng/zone for (2) and 125-432 ng/zone for (3). LOD and LOQ were 133 and 404 ng/zone for (1), 14 and 43 ng/zone for (2) and 12 and 36 ng/zone for (3), respectively. The intermediate precision was below 1.5 % (n=6). Recovery was found in the range of 99-101 %, 99-100 %, and 100-101 % for (1) to (3), respectively.

      Densitometric kinetic stability studies of some plant
      extracts using different regression methods

HPTLC of some constituents in the powder of the leaves of peppermint (1), basil (2), rosemary (3), eucalyptus (4), marjoram (5), and lemon grass (6); the fruits of anise (7), caraway (8), and coriander (9); the seeds of cardamom (10); the barks of cinnamon (11) and the leaves of olive (12) on silica gel with toluene – ethyl acetate 4:1 for (1) to (11) and methylene chloride – methanol – water 17:3:3 for (12). Detection by spraying with anisaldehyde–sulfuric acid reagent (0.5 mL anisaldehyde was dissolved in 50 mL glacial acetic acid and 1 mL of 97% sulfuric acid), followed by heating at 150 °C for 2 min for (1) to (11) and vanillin-sulfuric acid reagent (1.5 g vanillin was dissolved in 2 % ethanolic sulfuric solution), followed by heating at 105 °C for 10 min for (12). Long-term stability-testing was carried out at a temperature of 30 °C and a humidity of 65 % for 6 months. The method allowed to determine the expiry dates of selected plants tracing the constituent with the highest percentage change.
