Comparison of the chromatographic behavior of some sulfonamides on normal and reversed phase TLC plates with methanol, isopropanol, ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, MEK, dioxane and THF. Appropriation of a large amount of information about the hydrophobicity (RM°), the mechanism of adsorption, and the possibilities of separation of the sulfonamides by systematic investigation. The methods described are less expensive than GC and HPLC and easily be adapted for application in most routine quality control laboratories.

Investigation of the retention behavior of thiazoles as function of organic modifier content of the eluents using two types of stationary phases. TLC of 12 3-benzyloxycarbonyl-5-substituted 2,4-dioxotetrahydro-1,3-thiazoles on silica gel, impregnated with paraffin oil, and rice starch with NH3 conc. - methanol, conc. NH3 conc. - dioxane, and NH3 conc. - acetone with different modifier content (from 0.01 to 0.34 ) for methanol, dioxane, and acetone. Visualization under UV 254 nm.

J. Liq. Chromatogr. Relat. Technol. 31, 3020-3031 (2008). TLC of twelf thioazines on silica gel with chloroform - ethanol 10:1 and chloroform, and on aluminum oxide with dichloromethane and benzene - chloroform 1:1 in a chamber saturated for 30 min. Detection under UV 254 and 366 nm. The retention parameters were measured and then calculated as separation factors deltaRf, RS, and alpha. The hRf values were correlated with the dipole moments of thioazines and the symmetry of diazinodithiins.

TLC of ß- and g-quinolinyl sulfides (1,4-dithiinoldiquinolines, o,o'-dimethylthiodiquinolinyl sulfides, unsubstituted ß,g-diquinolinyl sulfides, methylthioquinolines) on silica with chloroform - methanol 98:2 and on aluminium oxide with carbon tetrachloride - chloroform 85:15. For determination of values of lipophilicity index, RMO, the TLC plates were impregnated by overnight predevelopment with hexane - paraffin oil 95:5. Aqueous methanol (concentration between 60 and 80%) was used as eluent. Inspection under UV 360 nm.

TLC of three 1,2-dithioles and five 2-alkylidene-4-oxothiazolidines on RP-18 with binary mixtures of methanol and water, tetrahydrofuran and water, and acetone and water in different proportions. Detection with iodine vapor. Good correlation of chromatographically obtained lipophilicity data with calculated log P values.
