Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 220 nm. The hRF value of N,N-dimethyltryptamine was 50. Linearity was in the range of 11.5-34.2 μg/zone. The intermediate precisios were below 5 % (n=3). The LOD and LOQ were 3.3 and 9.9 μg/zone, respectively. Mean recovery was 117.9 %.

After a fermentation process, the broths of psychrotolerant strains Vibrio splendidus T262 (isolated from the digestive tract of an Antarctic Ocean fish) and Arthrobacter psychrochitiniphilus T406 (found in penguin excrements in King George Island) were extracted with ethyl acetate and fractioned. To check the purification of new bisindole alkaloids from V. splendidus (turbomycines C-F) (1), and of A. psychr. (2-(indol-3-yl-methyl)indol-3-yl ethanol (2), TLC on silica gel (with water-resistant binders) with hexane – ethyl acetate 9:1 for (1) and dichloromethane – methanol 9:1 for (2). Evaluation before and after treatment with anisaldehyde reagent. Also preparative TLC on silica gel to isolate the following alkaloids from V. splendidus: monoindole: 4-(1H-indol-3-yl-sulfanyl)phenol (hRF 45 with hexane – ethyl acetate 17:3); bisindoles: 2,2-di-(3-indolyl)-3-indolone and 4-bis(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]-cyclohexa-2,5-dienone (eluent not given); and trisindoles: trisindolal (hRF 58 with dichloromethane – methanol 9:1), metagenetriindole (hRF 45 with the same), and turbomycine A (not given).

Pharmazie 40, 431-432 (1985). 100 samples from a panaeolus foenisecii species analyzed by TLC on silica with butanol - water - acetic acid - isopropanol 8:5:2:3; staining with Ehrlich reagent. Psilopsibine not found, but indole derivatives such as tryptamine, 5-oxy-tryptamine, 5-hydroxy-indole acetic acid.
