Visualization under UV 254 and 366 nm and by immersion in an acidic solution of cupric acetate monohydrate. Quantification by densitometry at 350 nm. Detection limit of phospholipids approx. 10 - 1000 ng. Also separation of neutral lipids, cholesterol, and phospholipids with petrol ether - ether - acetic acid 40:40:1.

Visualization of glycosphingolipids by spraying with 0.1% 5-hydroxy-1-tetralone in 80% H2SO4. Heating at 120°C for 10 min. Detection under UV 365 nm. Quantification by fluorodensitometry at 470/>500 nm. Lower limits of detection 2 - 5 pmol. New sensitive fluorescent labeling reagent for glycosphingolipids.
