      Thin-layer chromatographic determination of the pKa values of organic acids and bases

TLC of salicylic and benzoic acid on silica gel and of phenol, paracetamol, quinoline, 8-hydroxyquinoline, 4-bromoaniline, 2-chloroaniline, salicylic acid and benzoic acid on silica gel modified with DC 200 silicone oil with methanol - buffer in different volume ratios. TLC can be a valuable method for the determination of the pKa values of organic acids and bases. It is a simple and inexpensive alternative to the HPLC procedure.

HPTLC of eight new p-toluenesulfonyl-hydrazinothiazole and hydrazine-bis-thiazole derivatives on silica gel RP-18 with mixtures of methanol/water in different methanol proportion between 50 to 70% with 5% increments as mobile phase. Quantitative determination by absorbance measurement at 254 nm. A chromatographic hydrophobicity index was determined and comparable results were obtained using HPLC.

Separation of 16 isomeric methylanilines and chloroanilines by TLC on silica gel and on silica gel impregnated with manganese salts and correlation of the pKa values of the compounds with RM values and with the numerical values of topological indexes. Most accurate prediction of the pKa values of the aniline derivatives investigated was achieved by use of biparametric equations employing RM values and the topological indexes °B or 'B. - TLC of aniline derivatives on 1. silica gel with benzene - ethyl acetate - acetic acid 6:3:1; 2. on silica gel impregnated with a 10% aqueous solution of Mn(C2H3O2)?4 H2O with the a.m. eluent. Detection by spraying with 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde solution.

      Thermal instability of the selected TLC-type alkyl chemically bonded stationary phases and its physical implications

Differential scanning calorimetry and other physico-chemical investigations of chemically bonded phases (RP-8, RP-18, CN and DIOL) at elevated temperatures leading to the conclusion that a weak affect of thermal dissociation of the C-H bonds which occurs with the chemically bonded aliphatic ligands irradiated with the high-power neodymium laser of a Raman spectrophotometer results in a massive effect of the Raman scattering, enabling rapid and reliable estimation of the density of coverage of the silica matrix with the respective aliphatic ligands.
